Replace the System, Not Just the Panel

Before You Replace a Panel

Why Finding an Exact Match Is So Hard

  • Panels Are Bigger Now

New panels are larger and higher wattage than older models, so they rarely fit the old rails and clamp spacing.

  • Mismatches Cost Power

On a string inverter, one mismatched panel limits the output of every panel in its string.

  • Changes Can Trigger Code

Adding to or changing an older system can mean a permit, an inspection and today's electrical code.

  • New Panels Cost Less

Panel prices fell about 85% from 2010 to 2020, so a new system often costs less than expected.

Upgrade and Redesign Your Old System

Three ways to bring an older system up to date.

Commercial Projects

Most utility-scale EPCs replace aging or damaged modules in complete string or inverter quantities with new modules to avoid compatibility and warranty issues. This approach preserves replacement spares for future drop-in replacement and may substantially extend the system's life.
