The Morningstar EMC-1 Ethernet MeterBus Converter for IP-based networking and Internet connectivity.
• IP Based MODBUS Connectivity
• Remote Monitoring
• Custom Programming
• Cloud Hosted Data Service
The Ethernet MeterBus Converter (model: EMC-1) enables IP based network and internet connectivity to any Morningstar product that features an existing MeterBus port (RJ-11) including:
• MPPT controllers: TriStar MPPT, ProStar MPPT, and SunSaver MPPT
• PWM controllers: TriStar, ProStar (Gen3) and SunSaver Duo
• Inverters: SureSine
• Connects to any MeterBus enabled controller to provide enhanced data and network features
• Adds IP based MODBUS connectivity for remote communication and control
• Live View displays system status and log data directly from the EMC-1 in an easy-to-view webpage
• Powered via MeterBus port
The EMC-1 is powered by connecting it to the Morningstar product’s MeterBus port and the DC input for 12, 24, or 48V systems. The EMC-1 converts this connection into a fully enabled Ethernet port allowing data transfer to the internet. Once connected, the MeterBus port enables transmission of serial data to the EMC-1. This enables remote monitoring, configuration, and control, using any type of IP-based network connection. This way, many new, powerful integration options for Morningstar products can be activated and used in remote power systems.
What is the Modbus Protocol?
MODBUS® Protocol is a messaging structure developed by Modicon in 1979, used to establish master-slave/client-server communication between intelligent devices. It is a de facto standard, truly open and the most widely used nektwork protocol in the industrial manufacturing environment. It is literally implemented by hundreds of vendors on thousands of different devices in order to transfer discrete/analog I/O and register data between control devices. It’s really a lingua franca or common denominator between different manufacturers. One report called it the “de facto standard in multi-vendor integration”.
Morningstar EMC-1 Warranty
All of Morningstar’s charge controller components are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of FIVE (5) years from the date of shipment to the original end user. Morningstar will, at its option, repair or replace any such defective products.
